3 Aventadors in Geneva

Yesterday something truly awesome happened! I was at home studying for my exams when I got a text from my friend letting me know that there where two Lambos parked outside the 4 Sesons hotel in Geneva. I grabbed my camera right away and went down to the train station to grab the next train heading into Geneva. Once there I ran down to the 4 Seasons in hope of still catching the two to get some pictures. On my way there I caught sight of an Aventador in a side alley and when I turned around to look it was the two my friend told me about, but there was third one as well!!

Needless to say I got out my camera immediately to start taking pictures. I'll put them below. I also filmed the Aventadors while they where driving. I followed them to the other side of the bridge where they stopped at a traffic light and there I had the opportunity to talk to the owners for a second. After seeing the one license plate, which belonged to one of the guys from Future Photography, I asked if it was them and they said yes. I then talked to them some more and found out they where just up in the mountains for a photoshoot when a snowstorm came along and they had to leave again.

After that the cars drove off leaving me with pictures and some awesome footage! Thanks to the Future Photography team for all that. You can check out their work here: http://www.futurephotography.ch

A quick note to the pictures: It was getting dark at the time I was taking the pictures and they where almost always driving so most of the pictures turned out a bit unsharp, so I apologize for that, but I hope you like them anyway :)

And if any of you ever wondered what an Aventador sounds like watch this video I took!

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

As you probably already saw, this post is going to be about the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. This, like most Ferraris, is an exceptional car! This one is powered by a V12 engine producing 730 horsepower, which lets the F12 to get from 0-62 mph in 3.1 seconds. The V12 also lets this car get up to speeds of 211 mph. Another interesting thing about the F12 is the two gaps on either sides of the hood of the car which allow air to flow past the sides and therefore give the car much needed downforce at high speeds. Another cool thing is the two flaps in the nose of the car, in front of the two wheels. The flaps are closed, to improve aerodynamics, until the breaks reach a certain temperature. At temperatures where cooling is needed, the flaps open to provided air to the brakes so that they don’t overheat. Besides all this the car looks stunning as well and is incredibly fast. The only downside of this car is the price tag: about $322,000, which, needless to say, is quite a bit. But if you do have an extra 322 grand lying around and want a stylish V12 supercar, without the super aggressive look of the Aventador, take this one :)

Other than that I’ll let you convince yourself about the looks of this Ferrari, but if you do happen to have an extra minute I strongly recommend that you watch this video from Top Gear, where Jeremy Clarkson reviews the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Mercedes Benz G63 6x6 AMG

On Friday I came across the most amazing car I have ever seen in Geneva! If you have heard of this car already you know why it's just amazing. To start things off it has... wait, actually I should tell you how I came across it first. After school on Friday I went home before practice and was casually enjoying a nice game of Fifa 15 when all of a sudden I got a text from my friend Fabio. In the text it said "ICH KRIEGE EINEN HERZINFAKT", which basically translates to "I'M ABOU TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK". I already knew it would be because something really special was driving around Geneva, but when I heard it was the 6x6 by Mercedes I couldn't believe it! I have always wanted to see that car on the streets and besides seeing Brabus' version of it at the Geneva Motor Show I only saw pictures on the internet.

I then immediately grabbed my camera and packed my bag for practice, which would start at 6 PM in Geneva and ran down to catch the next train heading into the city. In the meantime my friend Fabio went home to get his big camera as well, which he got for christmas. I arrived at the train station and ran all the way across the middle of Geneva to the Omega store, where the 6x6 was parked when Fabio was there. After getting there I was so disappointed because it was gone. Around the corner was a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta so I took some pictures of that while I waited for Fabio. When he got there we started thinking and realized that, unless the owner was visiting family, he would probably stay in a hotel since the license plate was German. We started walking across the bridge again to get to the side where the fancy hotels are. Since it wasn't at the 4 Seasons we figured he would probably be at the Kempinski or the President Wilson. We walked to both hotels along the waterfront, but with no sign of the Benz. We where feeling quite glum and disappointed when, all of a sudden, we heard the distinctive roar of a V8. We turned around only to see the 6x6 blasting by us at full speed! We ran as fast as  we could to catch up to it. Luckily there was a ton of traffic and the traffic lights in Geneva are really weird so he had to stop at every light, allowing us to get some pictures of the Mercedes. Sadly it was quite dark at that time so it was really hard to get some quality pictures.

Once the Mercedes got to the bridge it had the open road ahead of him so it was quite difficult to keep up with it. The bridge has two sidewalks and I took the one on the lake side and Fabio took the one opposite of me, which turned out to be very fortunate for him! The 6x6 had parked along the street and everyone besides the driver went to buy something, which gave Fabio the chance to talk to the owner and when he asked if he could take a picture of the inside the owner said of course and got out allowing him to get a nice picture which you can see below. The owner was super nice and asked what website the pictures where going up on and Fabio gave him the address, so if he is reading this right now I want to say thank you in the name of Fabio and I and we really appreciate what he did for us!

Now onto some specs! The Mercedes Benz G63 6x6 AMG is powered by a twin turbocharged 5.5 liter AMG V8 producing 536 horsepower and allowing this car to go from 0-62 mph in just 7 seconds which is impressive for a car weighing 3850 kg. It also produces a staggering 760 Nm of torque. What's also staggering is the price tag: about $525,000! Although you do get a lot of car for your money :)

One last thing, some of the pictures are from Fabio because it was quite difficult to get some quality shots in the dark, so a big thank you to him for that!

458 Italia

To start the new year off right I am going to cover a car today, which, without a doubt, is nothing less than stunning… The Ferrari 458 Italia. The 458 made its first appearance in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. This Ferrari is powered by a 4.5 Liter V8 engine, hence the name 458, which produces 561 horsepower and lets this car go from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds. The top speed of the 458 is 202 mph.

There are multiple variations of this car. There is the Ferrari 458 Spider, which is a hardtop convertible version of the car. If you want a more in depth look of the 458 Spider just let me know and I'll do that soon :) There is also the Ferrari 458 Speciale which is the same car with some modifications, the most noticeable being the 2 exhaust pipes instead of 3 and also the two openings in the front of the car and obviously the carbon on the engine which can be seen in the engine compartment. I did a post on that one which you can look at here: http://carsofgeneva.blogspot.ch/2014/09/ferrai-458-speciale.html.  The final and newest variation of the 458 is the Ferrari 458 Speciale A, which, like the regular spider version, is a hardtop convertible, but with the same engine modifications as the 458 Speciale. I haven’t posted anything on the 458 Speciale A yet because I haven’t seen one in Geneva yet, but I will make a post as soon as I see one.

I think the 458 (especially the non-convertible ones) is truly amazing, mainly because of its look. It just looks stunning! I absolutely love the curves of this car and the way it is formed towards the rear where the air is able to flow towards the engine compartments. The other thing that I love is the engine compartment itself. Just being able to look through that big glass panel and to be able to see the engine is awesome because there are so many cars where you are not able to do so, like the Porsche 911 or the Porsche 918 Spyder. The last thing is that I love the fact that the proportions just fit and that it doesn’t have an oversized nose like the SLS AMG which looks amazing from some perspectives but really stupid from others. Not trying to say that I don’t like the SLS AMG, I think it’s awesome especially the Black Series, even though some people think the gullwing doors are a bit showoffy, I think they are perfect.

To wrap things up, I believe that the Ferrari 458 is not just a car, it’s a work of art. If any of you guys know Top Gear, the Brtitish TV series from BBC, they had an argument about the question if a car could be art and they said that the Alfa Romeo 8C was truly art, but I think the 458 belongs right up there with it.
